As usual with a DREAM GP everything doesn’t go very smoothly. DJ.taiki is out with an injury to his right orbital bone which he received back at the Featherweight GP qualifier against SHOJI. It doesn’t seem like he pulled out himself but it was a doctor’s order. Instead, Hideo Tokoro will take his place and face Abel Cullum in what should be a fast paced fight.

In the other GP fights Norifumi “KID” Yamamoto will face fellow wrestler Joe Warren, Masakazu Imanari will get a surprisingly tough test in Bibiano Fernandes, and Yoshiro Maeda will take on Hiroyuki Takaya in a fight which could end with a brutal KO for either fighter.

Update: The ticket prices for DREAM events will be lowered from DREAM.9 and onwards. RRS seats from 30000 to 22000 yen, S seats from 17000 to 10000 yen, and A seats from 7000 to 5000 yen. VIP seats will still be 100000 yen.

Update #2: DREAM EP Sasahara said that besides the GP fights, four superdreadnought fights and two normal fights will take place at DREAM.9. Superdreadnought is some kind of battleship. He said that even people who haven’t watched MMA before can enjoy themselves.

I would’ve paired Tokoro/Imanari, and Fernandes/Cullum. But I like these matchups regardless. KID/Warren should be a war if Warren can duplicate his performance against Beebe.

Those superdreadnought fights Sasahara mentioned could be Open Weight GP fights? I’m very interested what he meant and what they’re planning to do. Are there some rumours about it?

It seems like most people think it’s big Heavyweights like Sapp and HMC. I haven’t seen any real rumors though.

This could be interesting ratings wise. They said they will announce more fights next week, right?

Yes. It seems that Tanigawa and Sasahara are really proud of these fights so it will be interesting to see what it is.

Makes me even more interested what they have planned. I think I can wait a week but it would be great to know already :D

I can dig it. I always wanted PRIDE to have their MONSTER GP that was planned for 2007. SUPERDREADNOUGHT GP FTW
