Makoto Takimoto held an open training session at the J-ROCK workout studio today showing his boxing while wearing a long sleeve windbreaker. While it looks like the weight cut might be hard for him, Takimoto says that last time he had to cut 10 kg for his first fight at welterweight, but this time it’s only around half of that.
He has not really watched any footage of his opponent since there isn’t any available, but with his relaxed attitude going into fights he wasn’t intending to do much studying even if footage was available.
While Takimoto hasn’t won an MMA title since converting from judo, he looks at this fight as being one in which if he wins, he’ll be close to a title fight. For him, winning by KO or submission to make please the audience is ideal
While Takimoto wants his junior Hiroshi Izumi, who is like a younger brother to him, to do good in his MMA debut, about Ishii he said: “If Yoshida loses to him, I’d like to have a go at him next. I’m not thinking about it at present, but if the chance comes, I’d definitely like to try and fight him”.
Showing a smiling face and an interest in Ishii’s debut Takimoto finishes with: “Even if it’s an open-weight fight, it’s no problem”.
Jae Hee Cheon In Thailand
K-1 Lightweight fighter Jae Hee Cheon, who is currently on a two fight winning streak in K-1 including a KO victory over Norifumi “KID” Yamamoto, left to train in Thailand on August 16th. He is training at the legendary Thai WBA Boxing champion Khaosai Galaxy‘s gym.
The reason for the foreign training is that Cheon wants to elevate his Boxing skills to better match the style of K-1. He is training with the mindset of never fighting in K-1 again if he loses.
He’ll need that Boxing training when he goes up against crazy former Japanese Boxing champion Kazuhisa Watanabe, fresh off a victory against MMA’s Atsushi Yamamoto, in October.
Jae Sun Lee Wants Revenge
Makoto Takimoto and his SENGOKU X opponent, Korean Jae Sun Lee, have some history going into their fight which people might not know about.
In the 2000 Sydney Olympics where Takimoto won his gold medal in Judo, he defeated a Korean by the name of In Chul Cho in the final match. Cho in turn happens to be the Judo teacher of Lee.
Lee has a lot of respect for Takimoto and thinks he’s a great fighter. He says that himself, as Takimoto, is a Judo player who also likes to stand and trade, so he wants the fight to be one where they exchange blows.
“I’m aiming for a KO or submission, I’ll definitely win and return my debt to my teacher.”
FMC 1.5 In October?
This is quite old news but because of the flop of the first event, FMC said a while ago that they will hold an event (FMC 1.5) in October and if the fighters and fans acknowledge it, they’ll continue with FMC 2. However, since this announcement nothing new has come from FMC so who knows if FMC 1.5 will even happen.

Legendary Japanese kickboxer Kozo Takeda announced his retirement at a K-1 MAX press conference today. His last opponent will be Albert Kraus in a superfight on the October 26th K-1 MAX Final card.
Also announced for the card were MAX superfights between Taishin Kohiruimaki and Drago, Hinata and Mike Zambidis, and cosplayer Nagashima and Chinese Xu Yan.
In a 60 kg superfight, former bad boy Japanese Boxing champion Kazuhisa Watanabe will take on Korean “KID Killer” Jae Hee Cheon.
Update: A fight with Artur Kyshenko is also planned to be added to the card, making it 14 fights (including 4 koshien fights).
Update #2: Nagashima has started training in the Silver Wolf Gym (the gym Masato belongs to) since August and he spars with Masato once a week. He got a lot of advice from Masato but what seems to have stuck most is when Masato said: “You want to become stronger, right?”. Nagashima also mentioned that he has started weight training.

SENGOKU XI preview on Sundays SENGOKUG! episode. I hope Izumi does what he did at 4:10 rather than stand with Nansen (though it looks like he has some natural power).
The opponent of Satoshi Ishii’s debut match was announced today at a press conference in Tokyo. His debut will be on SENGOKU’s new year event and his opponent will be fellow gold medalist Hidehiko Yoshida in what promises to be a huge fight in Japan.
Update: The date of the event will be decided this month.
Update #2: Ishii provocatively said: “I’ve respected Yoshida since I was young, and it’s a good thing that I’m able to fight him. To be able to nail the tip of his chin with my punch is also a good thing.”
Yoshida said: “I think this is a good chance to teach (him) about the degree of difficulty of MMA, I want to teach him that.”
Update #3: WVR PR Kokuho said that there is a possibility that the name of the event will be changed from the new year event and onward (will they change SENGOKU or the name of their new year events? Possibly a demand from a TV station they have acquired?) to a name which has popular use in the world (popular use around the world, something English like DREAM? What word do people know almost regardless of where they live?). The name change and date might be announced at SENGOKU X on September 23rd.
Update #4: Kokuho also said that next Sunday (the 20th) on TV Tokyo there will be a SENGOKUG! special from 16:55 to 17:15 (4:55 PM to 5:15 PM). The special will be about SENGOKU’s Judo Top Team (Ishii, Yoshida, Takimoto, Izumi).
Update #5: It looks like they really are thinking about changing the name from SENGOKU to something else. Since they use Chinese characters for SENGOKU it seems like they now want to use something that is more international.
Update #6: Kokuho said the reason that the date isn’t set yet is becuase of the sponsor side and arena.
A SENGOKU new year press conference is rumored to take place on the 14th or early next week.
SENGOKU Producer Kokuho takahiro said,
“ISHI Satoshi(2008 olympic Judo Gold medalist)debut event is New year eve…or Junuary 3″
This is important news!
because FEG aleady announce that Dynamite! 2009 is hold in NY eve(K-1fighter MASATO do retirement match in this event)
If SENGOKU determine NY eve event,it becaume big business war,Fighter’s fightmoney also up and up….
or,K-1 owner ISHII kazuyoshi confirm that He propose SENGOKU office do big event together.
KOKUHO’s “NY EVE ISHII Satoshi Debut EVENT”means DREAM-SENGOKU-K1 aliance?
Even if SENGOKU avoide butting event and decide 1.3event,SENGOKU’s NY event is big news.
especially in Japan,ISHII’s MMA debut is national issue.many ordinary people is interested in this event.
Card is ISHII Satoshi vs YOSHIDA Hidehiko?
From Kamipro’s cell phone site:
They received a release from WVR yesterday evening (after the SENGOKU press conference of yesterday). It was an advance notice about a SENGOKU new years event press conference. Since it said new year, the people at Kamipro thought it meant that the even will take place at January 3rd. However, when querying WVR about this, WVR replied with: “New year is from Christmas and after”.
According to their “collection of data” TBS are also interested in Ishii’s debut fight. They hope/expect/anticipate an all-star dream event from the two major organizations in Japan.
—————–
I wouldn’t be surprised whatever happens. If they can’t find a good channel and slot for Ishii’s debut and FEG/TBS have offered something good, they might go for it. It wouldn’t surprise me if TV Tokyo give them a slot to show it live on January 3rd. It wouldn’t surprise me if one of the major channels want to air the main fights of the SENGOKU event on NYE or January 3rd, but just for that event. A lot of other things can happen as well.
I feel like there’s something going on. The WVR PR yesterday looked so calm and “happy”. The front men of MMA organizations in Japan usually look tired/stressed like: “The next event must go well or else I’m gonna get a visit from the “higher-ups” (if you know who I mean)”.
NYE is always the most exciting part of the year in Japanese MMA.
Wrestling Observer reports that J.Z. Calvan has sustained another injury and will not be able to face Daisuke Nakamura at DREAM.11 in October.
In happier news, MMAWeekly reports that a Lightweight fight between Eddie Alvarez and Katsunori Kikuno could happen at DREAM.12 in October.
