K-1 + DREAM…+ SRC On NYE?! Both Sides Deny
It’s no secret anymore that there is talk between FEG (K-1, K-1 MAX, DREAM), RE (old PRIDE staff part of DREAM), and WVR (SRC) to hold their NYE events together. WVR haven’t been able to secure a TV deal for NYE despite having the biggest or second biggest fight of the night, so holding a big NYE event together is currently in the works (maybe already completed).
Tokyo Sports, a hit or miss newspaper, reports about it today (picture above). They’re writing that the event including all three organizations will take place at the Saitama Super Arena. So the fights WVR had planned for Ariake Colosseum will take place in Saitama Super Arena instead and TBS will most likely broadcast them together with the FEG/RE (Dynamite!!) fights. There will probably be some mixed fights if it happens as well, Sanae Kikuta called out Kiyoshi Tamura not too long ago.
Apparently, the president of Don Quijote, WVR’s main sponsor, and FEG president Tanigawa have since October had numerous ultra secret meetings. They might have come to an agreement on November 6th.
Both Tanigawa and WVR PR Kokuho have denied this, though I wouldn’t take their word for it. It’s not like they would confirm it before a big press conference, which you shouldn’t be surprised to see happen sometime next week.

Does this mean no Sengoku in the future?
I think it’s just for NYE.
This is great for japanese MMA
Hey NOB, I have this “hunch” that HDNet is working with Strikeforce and CBS to potentially allow some co-promoted events on Showtime/CBS, while HDNet becomes a major sponsor of the event and get rights to a re-broadcast of the event, similar to what they did for the 11/7 Strikeforce event. Any news on this?
Could it be possible that we will see DREAM, SRC, and Strikeforce work on a mega show? I would think that EA Sports would be a sponsor as well.
No news but it sounds possible.
Seems like FEG got what they wanted. All cards for NYE are now in their hands.
Yeah, Breen was right! War co-promoted shows!
Would be awesome
On other note, FEG has the upper hand and so I don’t think they would agree on this only for this years NYE. Either the co-promotion would include some normal events in 2010 or the next NYE events.
Rumor that Sengoku is done altogether, any truth to that?
I don’t know, but they just joined the Martial Arts Fed and signing Ishii without having him fight once and fold is a little strange.
Nothing is impossible. It wasn’t long ago that there were reports of Ishii wanting WVR to buy DREAM.
We’ll have to wait and see, something will happen one of these days.
It’s best for MMA if both groups work together for big network TV shows. With Masato bringing the female audience & Ishii-Yoshida bringing the male sports fans this show will do way better on TV than last year’s show.
Lol, in a way its true, but funny none the less.
