Road To Dynamite!! 2009! The Third Press Conference Part 2
The rules for the DREAM vs. SRC fights will be three five minute rounds and no stomps or soccerkicks (taking the bad from both). Referees will be mixed from both organizations. I don’t think the judging is decided yet.
Kazushi Sakuraba is injured and will most likely not participate. 1-2 more fights will be added (probably one of them being Kazuo Misaki vs. Melvin Manhoef).
Kawajiri wasn’t very motivated at the press conference: “I have no interest in this fight and I’m not motivated either.”
Omigawa and Takaya sounded more hyped for their fight though. Omigawa said that he thinks they are the best two Japanese featherweights.
Yokota is motivated to fight Kawajiri since Kawajiri is quite a big name now. He thinks that he’d take Kawajiri in a K-1 fight (Yokota has fought in shootboxing, bare-knuckle muay thai, kickboxing, etc. before with good results).
Aoki interrupted Yokota as he talked about beating Kawajiri in K-1: “Enough already. Be quiet, you.”
However, Yokota just continued and said that he thinks he would be able to do more against Masato (than Kawajiri did) and he wants to show that in this fight.
After this Kawajiri said that he wants to meet the new year in a good way, fight with all his might, kill Yokota, etc.
Hirota said that it doesn’t seem like Aoki know about him (Aoki said at the first Dynamite!! press conference that he doesn’t know who the SRC champion is): “Should I put a heavy strike on him?”
Takaya said that the audience should obey the rules (there was an incident at the Featherweight GP finals where Takaya’s gang caused some trouble at the event): “I want you to be quiet and watch, and leave the fighting to me and Omigawa.”
Omigawa said that Takaya will be his favorite food on NYE. Both are excited, Omigawa said that because Takaya is the opponent in the “Kusottare Theatre” everything worked out as he desired. He says that they’ll have a violent and good fight on NYE. Takaya shares the same feelings.
When the fighters were going to have their pitcure taken together after after the press conference Kawajiri just left and Aoki was going to do the same but DREAM EP Sasahara grabbed him and showed him where to stand.

Sounds like Aoki and Kawajiri might actually be pissed at DREAM. Hard to discern shtick from shoot, though…
The only people happy with this fights are Hirota and Yokota. Plus, Aoki and Kawajiri are more pissed with the WVR side than with FEG.
Yeah, Aoki and Kawajiri are legitimately mad, and it’s understandable. Dream is really fucking Kawajiri over here (and has been for quite some time), and Aoki just wants to run away and fight in the States.
As a fan I just hope this dissatisfaction and lack of interest/motivation won’t result in them trying to make a point by intentionally trying to be boring. It’s not as if Aoki in particular is a stranger to that idea, but at least Kawajiri sounds like he’ll bring it anyway.
I can smell an upset in Aoki vs Hirota though, if Aoki doesn’t take Hirota seriously and gets sloppy.
As whomever said though, hard to tell what’s real and what’s hype/build-up. Dissing the match-ups as irrelevant and uninteresting doesn’t strike me as a very rational way to build hype however.
Masato/Souwer, and Ishii/Yoshida we’re enough for them. Tickets are almost sold out, and the ratings will most certainly be up from last year. They didn’t need to spend money on foreign fighters, it would have been nice, but they are smart in saving the money, especially when they don’t need the foreign draw this year. If Aoki and Kawajiri both win on NYE, and do it in impressive fashion a fight between them later next year will be available.
Toss in Kid, Minowa, Sefo, and the Dream vs. SRC angle and you’ve got some solid drawing power scattered throughout the card.
I don’t think its an amazing card, but its definitely a very good one. No need to complain imo.
kawajiri and aoki arent huge starts just because sasahara washes their balls in dream
if you look at the numbers when dream was putting kawa and aoki in main event and co main events those were some of the worst ratings in years for all of FEG in some events ratings would peak in akiyama or crocops fights when they were fighting some scrubs like 2-3 fights before the main event
i would just sit back and be quiet knowing that my usually result in ratings dips if was in their place and just be happy i get to be on the card
Yup, people think Aoki and Kawajiri are superstars or something. Lol at save the card for a DREAM event next year (as if it’s a huge fight).
KID, Tokoro, both are bigger than them.
I agree with cacti though, very good card, no complaints should be done. The card wouldn’t have been as good if they didn’t hold the event together.
Heh, I’ll admit to being one of those overestimating the draw of Aoki vs Kawajiri if that’s the case, however, you can’t really blame people for the assumption as they’re probably the internationally highest ranked guys that DREAM have.
Yes, it’s a huge fight for hardcore fans but unless something happens between them which make people talk I don’t see it doing that good business-wise. KID/Tokoro would be bigger business-wise.
How is Tokoro such a huge star anyway? Is it the whole janitor angle?
Off topic, but do you see DREAM holding a Woman’s GP in 2010? There have been a few things that led me to believe this is possible. (Scott Coker talking about holding a Strikeforce-affiliated GP in another promotion, DREAM possibly having a contract with Kim Couture, Kyra Gracie MMA debut, etc.) Any thoughts, N.O.B.?
Haven’t heard anything but wouldn’t surprise me.
He isn’t a huge star but a lot of people saw his Pequeno and Royce fights.
he has alot of female fans so does kid they have lot of merchandise at the events kid and tokoro have like 4-5 different shirts for sale at a time and their female fans go and show support and by their stuff
tokoro has some celebrity friends as well that go to events to support him and are bummed when he loses
the last time kawajir and aoki lost the entire arena erupted with happiness
Is Tokoro really considered handsome by japanese girls/women?
From what I have seen from interviews and tv shows he’s very very shy.
And now, when he shaved off his trademark hairstyle, it’s even more hard to belive, that he’s popular with the ladies… ^_-
He isn’t as popular as KID or Masato but he has more female fans than the average MMA fighter.
They might find him cute because he’s so shy, might be his backstory, don’t know.
he is the shy in the boy band kid is the bad boy
seems like kawajiri’s head got a little big. i always liked him cuz he puts 100% into every fight, but saying he’s not motivated against Yokota, who is still a dangerous fighter, is going get him ko’d. I realize he is disappointed that he isn’t going to fight Aoki in a title match on Omisoka, the perfect dream of any Japanese fighter, but he needs to push through or else it’s gonna get worse; makes me dislike him a little now.
I think Kawajiri is decently popular. Their was a good bit of buzz in the run up to the Masato fight between the mma and k1 crowd. Kawajiri gets good hits on Youtube.
Aoki v Kawajiri is a future headliner that hardcore fans all over the world will get behind. Fuck the casual crowd, they won’t watch no matter what put on. Maybe if they put Giant Silva v Bob Sapp.
I hope Aoki isn’t taking Hirota lightly, that’s what I think Kitaoka did. He’s a scrappy dude.
Aoki and Kawajiri always get the biggest crowd pops when they do the opening ceremony.
Of course the people that attend these events are big MMA fans, but still.
Anyways, Does the 1-2 bouts just mean MMA bouts? Japan-mma says they will be announcing 2 K-1 bouts.
Misaki/Manhoef
Mousasi/Zimmerman K-1
Watanabe vs. anybody k-1
That would be a good way to finish the card imo
The fights I’ve heard about are:
Kazuo Misaki vs. Melvin Manhoef (MMA)
Badr Hari vs. Jerome Le Banner (K1)
Gegard Mousasi vs. Ewerton Teixeira (K1)
Errol Zimmerman v. Hong Man Choi (K1)
Bitches love me
How’s it going Hideo?
I love you, but Sandro is going to work you over pretty good
damn i hope not… i always pull for tokoro but dammit he always breaks my heart
sandro is a beast though
big fan bro
remember that time at dream when the ratings were high at the start of the event after the naito fight then dropped during the kawajiri fight but then peaked up again during your epic fight
that was cool
And thus why major mma in Japan blows right now
agree things are to politicize i mean yes of course kawajiri and aoki are great fighters but they arent main event attractions
just beacuse they are buddies with sasahara and them doesnt mean they can be put over established draws
I dont they theyre being put over any other fighters, well aoki has headlined a few shows but that doesnt really matter to the tv audience cause they can edit it but for the the fans attending aoki might be the biggest attraction like when you watch a dream event tokoro doesnt get as much applause but during the broadcast hes a key feature because hes recognizable, same guys like choi and sapp. You get the feeling from the event that the fans are sick of seeing him but he still has some draw and recognition to the tv viewer because he’s the big black space baby
i want sylvia vs choi and pudzianowski vs sapp on the card.
NOB, where can i find the bareknuckle muay thai fight of yokota?
I would pay to watch them fight!!
I don’t know anymore, it used to be on YouTube way back but I can’t find it anymore.
I just thought: What’s a Japanese MMA fighter doing there? when I saw it. The crowd was funny during the fight as well.
