Takimoto To Welterweight! First Fight Versus Costa

It was officially announced today that Makoto Takimoto will move down to Welterweight. He will be in the race for a spot in the Welterweight title match in January 2010. His SENGOKU VII opponent is Chute Boxe Academy’s Michael Costa, who had a competitive Welterweight fight against Nick Thompson at SENGOKU III.

In other SENGOKU news, Five Ounces of Pain has a new article about James Thompson returning to SENGOKU at SENGOKU IX in August where he wants a rematch against Kazuyuki Fujita.

Update: A Heavyweight, a Light Heavyweight, and an opening fight are planned besides the four FW GP fights and the three single fights already announced.

Update #2: WVR PR Kokuho mentioned Nick Thompson, Mike Pyle, and Fabricio Monteiro when talking about foreign fighters in the Welterweight division. He also made a call out to the Japanese Welterweight fighters who have been fighting overseas (Gono, Chonan, etc.), he wants them to participate in SENGOKU.

Thompson Vs. York Official! Kim Jong Man Takes Final Spot

The second non-gp fight of SENGOKU VII along with the final participant of the Featherweight GP were announced today. The rumored fight between James Thompson and Big Jim York will take place and Kim Jong Man will take the final spot of the Featherweight GP.

Kim Jong Man has a few very good results in his record and should have gotten the nod in his last fight against DJ.taiki. However, he has been inconsistent thus far in his career.

Return To Japan! James Thompson Vs. Big Jim York

MMAWeekly reports that James Thompson will face Big Jim York in his return to Japan at SENGOKU VII on March 20th. Thompson is currently on a three fight losing streak so a win here is important.

Big Jim York was defeated by Yoshihiro “KISS” Nakao in his last fight at SENGOKU II.

Sherdog forum member Boondockvideo writes that James Thompson will participate in SENGOKU VII on March 20th. The opponent is not 100% set yet. You can follow the thread here.

I can also write that Nam Phan will definitely participate in the SENGOKU Featherweight GP if nothing strange happens. He should be announced at SENGOKU’s next press conference.

James Thompson To Sign With Either DREAM Or SENGOKU!

According to a new article at MMARated, James Thompson is in serious talks with FEG and WVR to fight in either DREAM.6 or SENGOKU V in September. If he signs with WVR, don’t be surprised to see a second fight with Yoshida as Yoshida has stated in the past that he wants a rematch.
