Akiyama To The UFC! Maximo Blanco (The True Knight) Returns

February 25, 2009 6 comments

It has been officially announced on UFC’s website that Japan & Korea superstar Yoshihiro Akiyama has signed with the UFC. No date has been set yet for his debut but with this signing we can probably expect the UFC to hold events in Korea or Japan, maybe sooner than we thought.

Promising SENGOKU training player Maximo Blanco will return to the Pancrase ring on April 5th with his new ring name, The True Knight (not sure how to translate, could maybe be translated as the knight of truth also). He will face veteran Koji Oishi in probably his toughest fight to date.

King Mo talks another Pancrase fighter, namely Light Heavyweight King Of Pancrase Ryo Kawamura, in a new interview with PunchDrunkGamer.

In other SENGOKU news, Jorge Santiago reveals to Tatame that he might return to SENGOKU in May. Hopefully he will defend his title if he participates.

SENGOKU veteran Nick Thompson defeated Paul Daley on the 20th at MFC 20. This is a big win for him and he would surely be one of the favorites in a possible SENGOKU Welterweight GP. You can watch the fight here.

D&S Links! Silva Vs. Aleksander Next?

Antonio Silva Vs. Aleksander Emelianenko Next?

In a new interview with Antonio Silva at Fighters Only Magazine it says that:

Earlier today, it emerged that Silva – who has a three-fight non-exlcusive deal with Sengoku – might be facing Aleksander Emelianenko in his next bout.

It doesn’t say if the fight would be in SENGOKU or not but I doubt his contract is non-exclusive in Japan and he can’t fight in the U.S. so it would probably be in a SENGOKU or an M-1 Challenge type event if it happens.

Shaolin Back In March Or April?

In a new article at FCFighter Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro says:

Right now, the UFC is huge. But I’m very happy – I’m very happy with K-1. Hopefully, this year I’ll return to the ring. I haven’t signed anything yet, but hopefully March or April. We’ll see.”

After my injury I was ready to fight, but then one guy refused to fight me, another time they offered me [Mach] Sakurai.Sakurai is 170, I’m 155.

Hopefully they will give him a fight soon.

Silva Close To SENGOKU HW Title Fight?

There are two new Antonio Silva articles at Tatame. One contains comments by him after his victory at SENGOKU:

It wasn’t spoken when I’ll come back yet, but they said at the press conference before the fight that if I win, they could give me the chance to be at the heavyweight belt challenge”, revealed the fighter, who waits anxiously for the confirmation of the good news.

“They want to do eight shows in 2009, and I’ll be prepared to fight at any moment.
