Kazunori Yokota! The 3rd Generation DEEP Lightweight Champion

Name: Kazunori Yokota
Age: 30
Height: 172 cm
Hometown: Funabashi City, Japan
Background: Judo
Titles: 3rd DEEP Lightweight Champion

MMA Record: 6-1-3
Amateur MMA Record: 1-0

Kickboxing Record: 1-0
Bare Knuckle Muay Thai Record: 1-0

Kazunori Yokota joined the GRABAKA gym (Sanae Kikuta, Akihiro Gono, Kazuo Misaki) after 18 years of Judo and made his Professional MMA debut against Keita Nakamura in 2004. The fight ended in a draw. One year and one amateur fight later he joined DEEP where he put together a 4-0-2 record before receiving a title shot against Takanori Gomi’s training partner and 2nd Generation DEEP Lightweight Champion, Nobuhiro Obiya. Yokota was very impressive and won the fight by decision.

After becoming DEEP Champion Yokota won a Kickboxing match in DEEP, an MMA match in DEEP and fought a Shootboxing (Standing Vale Tudo) match where he surprisingly defeated Faldir Chahbari by decision. He also fought in a Bare Knuckle Muay Thai fight in Thailand at an unknown date which there is footage of somewhere. In that fight he kept taking the Thai fighter down during the fight, the same strategy he used in his Shootboxing fight. However, in the Muay Thai fight he won by KO in the end after knocking the Thai out cold when he decided to punch instead of going for the takedown.

Yokota’s undefeated record came to an end in May of this year when he defended his DEEP Lightweight Title against Korean Bang Seung Hwan. Before the fight there were reports of both DREAM and SENGOKU fighting over him. However, it was a bad performance by Yokota who lost by KO in the first round.

After signing with SENGOKU and being announced as a participant in the SENGOKU Lightweight GP, Yokota now has a chance to redeem himself and show why some people thought he would become a new great Japanese Lightweight.
