The Return Of The King! King Mo Vs. Yukiya Naito Announced

IRIE!

Three new fights have been announced for SENGOKU NO RAN 2009. In the only announced fight for the main card, King Mo will take on Yukiya Naito, who is 9-1 in his last 10, in a Light Heavyweight fight. Yukiya Naito last fought just 9 days ago at DEEP 39 where he defeated Yuta Watanabe.

The two opening Lightweight and Light Heavyweight fights that were mentioned on the site before were also announced today. In the lightweight fight, SENGOKU training player Maximo Blanco will get his first fight in SENGOKU against Seigo Inoue, who has been very active in 2008 and who last fought at the same card as Yukiya Naito 9 days ago. In the Light Heavyweight fight, Hidetada Irie will face Minoru Kato.

Update: The tryout for becoming a SENGOKU Training Player will be held on February 1st from 13:00 to 16:00.

Update #2: There seems to be more talk about Irie (the guy with the glasses) than any of the other announced fights on Japanese sites and boards. One site calls him the number 1 problem child of MMA.

Update #3: Apparently, WVR were once thinking of canceling Mo’s participation at this event because of injuries of possible opponents, among other things. However, many fans requested his participation so WVR started to look for an opponent and when Naito heard that they needed an opponent, he made a request. [Update: It seems that Mo’s original opponent was going to be either a Japanese or a foreign fighter, but both pulled out due to injury.]

Update #4: Irie at the press conference: “Osu! Hi, my name is Irie and I am the absolute king of DEEP.” Then he said that he wants to appear in various major organizations, stood up, and said “Tanigawa!” with a large voice. He continued to talk with a large voice, talking about his dream being a fight with Rickson. At the end of his talking with a large voice: “…Huh? I slipped?”

I’m starting to understand why they call him a problem child. More Irie press conference pictures here.

How many more fights can we expect on this card? Is Fujita vs Ogawa a real possability? Akiyama vs Nastula and Thompson vs Jaoude maby.

I’m waiting for articles on the press conference, but I’m guessing 1-2 more main card fights. I don’t know about Fujita vs Ogawa, but it doesn’t feel impossible, and it is always thrown out there on Japanese boards. You never know with WVR though, sometimes they wow you and sometimes it’s just meh. However, I think this card is good even if the remaining fights aren’t world class.
