Satoshi Ishii is thinking about a nickname to have in U.S. fighting career. He himself wants “Kenshin” after Uesugi Kenshin but he asked a taxi driver in the U.S. if Kenshin is known and got no reaction. However, when he asked the driver what he thinks about ninja the driver said that it is very cool and stylish to be called that. So Ishii’s current plan is Satoshi “Ninja” Ishii but he isn’t 100% sure yet.

Ishii is moving to the U.S. at the end of February to start training with American Top Team. He is also planning to train in Brazil with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira as he was invited there by him at UFC 94. He also had some contact with LYOTO (or his father) while there, because of his Japanese origin or something.

And the most important news, Ishii is putting contract negotiations with the UFC on hold for now. As a professional he wants to hear the talk of various organizations. He especially mentioned Affliction and mentioned both Fedor and Sylvia. However, he said that right now the UFC is still the first candidate.

I agree…I’m a big Ishii fan but Rua has dibs. He’s got to come up with something a little more original anyway…

Asking an american about the Sengoku period was hilarious. Im positive the majority of americans couldnt find japan on a map. You’d be surprised at how many cant find Canada on a map and they only have to borders.
Ninja is weak and cliche as a nickname. If youre 11 years old, its really cool though. But so is ‘fartman’ at that age.

Hey, Satoshi “Cartman” Ishii has a ring. He can wear a tuque too.

Now I know Ishii is insane? Affliction? Really?
Heck, Fedor is not a selling card in the US.
If youre a reality TV jerkoff you are much better known.
I want Affliction to succeed but they can use him even less than the UFC. Will Ishii cause anyone to buy a ticket or PPV because he is on the ticket? No.
And Affliction doesnt have the time to break in people who never fought before.

Is there a reason he doesnt want to take a couple of millions bucks in Japan first and get some experience? Next thing youre gonna hear is hes talking to Strikeforce.

I know the UFC wants Ishii for a possible show in Japan but take that away and they have little use for him elsewhere.

Im sorry but I get the feeling that Ishii is gonna get scalped and left by the side of the road. Anyone who asks a cabbie if Kenshin is known is not exactly atuned to his surroundings and falls somewhere between naive and clueless.

i’d also like to see him take a punch or knee to the head and then well talk. Pawel Nastula was a big judoka who had tons of international experience and while he did face the cream of his division (no easy fights), I dont see Ishii having the experience of Nastula.
Anyways, its all theoretical anyways. But this is not a kickboxer who is used to punching, being punched, kicking and kneeing, this is still a guy whose short career has been about doing none of these.
Heck, you could even ask is he knows how to make a fist.

He can make a fist, he has been training MMA for a while now.

I wouldn’t be surprised about anything Ishii says from now on. He wants to be a heel.
