Masato will participate in the Tokyo Marathon on March 22nd. He might make an announcement about his participation in the K-1 MAX FINAL16 event there.

FEG EP Sadaharu Tanigawa will also participate in the marathon. He says that it is completely impossible for him to keep up with Masato but he is confident that he can follow Akebono’s pace. His goal is to beat Akebono.

In other K-1 news, All-Japan Kickboxing Federation Featherweight champion Masahiro Yamamoto is well on his way to the K-1 Lightweight division after a victory over New-Japan Kickboxing Federation Featherweight champion Kunitaka by unanimous decision (30-26 by all three judges) at AJKF Krush.2 yesterday.

FEG EP Tanigawa was on hand at the event and had some very good things to say about Yamamoto afterwards. Yamamoto is 25 years old, 165 cm tall, and according to wikipedia, his Kickboxing record is now 27-6-5.

Also note the “Browse” menu to the right now that I have started covering K-1. If you want only posts about one category of the blog, press whichever you want on the menu. Of course, if you want everything, the front page is where you should visit.

I’m not a huge K-1 fan but their tournaments are legendary and we need more different martial arts to get coverage.
MMA is not one style of fighting.

For those who dont know what Akebono looks like:

Hmm, Yamamoto is only 165cm… he’s going to be a short fighter for MAX. Does he even weigh 70kg? He doesn’t look that muscular.
