K-1 AWARD & MAX KOREA 2009! Start Of A New Division
The K-1 MAX event in Korea this weekend will consist of a MAX tournament, a WORLD YOUTH fight, the start of a new division, and two former Korean World Champion Boxers in superfights.
The new division starting at the event is the K-1 Women’s Division. Korean Lim Su Jeon will face Japanese REINA (second from the left). Lim, who had a role in Thai movie Ong-bak, is a Korean Muay Thai Bantamweight champion and the Neo-Fight 52kg champion. REINA is a high-school student with Shoot Boxing & J-GIRL experience.
One of the superfights will see the return of former WBA Featherweight Champion Yong Soo Choi who you might remember being defeated by Masato at Dynamite!! 2007. He will face the entertaining Shingo Garyu who is coming off a victory in the MAX event last month. I really recommend watching the TATSUJI vs. Shingo fight from R.I.S.E.
In the first superfight of the night, two-time WBC Featherweight champion In Jin Chi will return to take on Japanese Hareruya. Jin vacated his Boxing title in 2007 to convert to K-1. I recommend watching some of his Boxing fights, especially his second fight against Michael Brodie and his title fight with Erik Morales. He was a very entertaining Boxer.
The tournament will see fighters from Korea, Japan, China, and Mongolia compete. The winner and runner-up of last years tournament, Chi Bin Lim and Jae Gil No, are participating this year too, Su Hwan Lee will try to break his two fight losing streak, and Amateur Boxing Asian Championship 2007 silver medalist from Mongolia, Munguntsooj Nandin-Erdene, will make his K-1 debut.
