Kitaoka Returns In June! Eyeing Pancrase Title

SENGOKU Lightweight champion Satoru Kitaoka has announced on his blog that he will return to the ring on June 7th. The fight will be in Pancrase. He wants to capture the Pancrase belt too and writes that he is not interested in any other belts than the Pancrase and SENGOKU belts. He will defend his SENGOKU belt just a couple of months later at SENGOKU X in August.

Hmm…seems like of regressive to win the Sengoku lightweight grand prix and then go Pancrase.

Pancrase have sent a lot of fighters to SENGOKU now, I’m sure WVR wants to give back a little. Kitaoka may have requested it too, he has unfinished business with the current LW KOP.

Plus, if Kitaoka, with his personality, holds two titles at the same time his popularity will increase.

I think that this is great just like Gomi going back to Shooto or Mousasi fighting in K1 or Fedor competing in Sambo (who knows maybe even ADCC?).
If the athlete wants to compete in slightly different events/styles, I have no problem with that, I respect them even more.
    Fighters should want to fight.

Having different organizations cooperate like this is good for the fans and the fighters.

Which reminds me, Coker from Strikeforce has talked about bringing some japanese fighters over to the US and maybe having some of his come over to Japan, he’s very open to it but I never caught which organization he was talking about when he said the connections he’s made throughout the years.

Do you know if Strikeforce would work with Dream, WVR or both?
They now have the Showtime deal AND the 5-6 shows on CBS that Elite used to have which is national TV and Im sure that’s gonna be attractive.

He has talked about working with both so it wouldn’t surprise me to see some fighters in Strikeforce (as has happened before).

Like N.O.B. said I would assume he’s referring to both DREAM and WVR as Alistair Overeem, Mitsuhiro Ishida, Kazuo Misaki, Nick Diaz, Duane Ludwig, and Nam Phan are all listed under their roster.

When he said about connections he most likely meant that he worked for FEG for quite some time on K-1 shows in America.
