Cro Cop To Fight Overeem In July

Mirko Filipovic is likely to once again face Dutchmen Alistair Overeem. Though the the fight is yet to be made official, its the most likely scenario for the Croatian.

Cro Cop confirmed that he had started boxing training and said that he felt highly motivated for his next challenge. He indicated that he would be ready to fight in a month Dream.

“”I feel superb, the movement is there, my heart is in it. My recovery is ahead of schedule. I’ll probably complete in Dream 9 in May or July” said Cro Cop speaking with Nova TV.
Mirko reiterated that he had no immediate plans to walk away from the sport even though he is aware that his career is entering the last phase. This final phase could last anywhere from ten to fifteen more fights but according to Mirko this will be the most productive part of his career.

“Often in past I’ve had problems motivating myself to train. But I realized that when i end it all a part of me will die. Some people think that I fight for money, this is not so. Money is the least important factor in my motivation “.
“I’ve used this break to give my mind a good rest and now I have a clear look on my career and which paths to take. The retirement is not an option ” he said on his official blog last month.

Overeem is the current Strikeforce heavyweight champion and has made plants to depend his title in June most likely against a former member of Team Cro Cop, Fabricio Werdum.

The last time the two met Overeem back in September of 2008, and the match had to be stopped after a series of illegal low blows .

Cro Cop long term plans however still remain unclear. Five MMA organizations in total (Three US based and two Japanese) have offers on the table.

“July is still a long way off. In the next few days I will know more about my schedule for 2009. I want to fight at least another four times this year, and I plan to fight five times in 2010.” – said an enthusiastic Cro Cop.

I cant wait for Overeem to knee him in the other nut.

And if were gonna talk UFC, what the hell is that card?
Looking at the 5 PPV fights you realize that its another one of those mediocre cards they toss around way too much.
Does anyone care about Leites-Silva? I dont think even Leites family cares enough to buy the PPV. Its become like a Fedor fight where you are just happy to see Spider against anyone but it was bad enough when they tried to convince us tath Cote was worth a title shot.
Is there ANYONE in Silva’s weight class that you even care seeing him fight? Not even one reality tv retard?

Lidell is on the other side of the slope and Shogun has been hurt for the past 3 years. I would have cared about this fight about 4 years ago but Im still interested because of who they once were.
Lidell is now much more prone to flash KO’s then before so it could be a fast one either way.
Hardonk-Congo is ok with two solid pros, but the two other fights is the definition of mediocrity in the LHW.

Then again, I’m not paying the ridiculous amount they charge for this very, very average card. I will most likely watch the whole Rua fight on Youtube, maybe the Hardonk one too and if Im at the computer tomorrow I’ll find somewhere around 11-12pm where I can watch Spider demolish Leites.

    |Lopez said open weight GP with the fighters from the 3 orgs, I say go for it. Imagine if Fedor takes part, Mousasi and so on and they show in on Strikeforces Showtime or CBS (for the finals)?
THAT I would pay for and then get the DVD afterwards.
I like the jockey weights but a GP with the big boys.. oh man..

Some time ago, fight between Bob Sapp and Kimbo in Strikeforce was rumored… And what’s with Kimbo’s K-1 debut?
I would love to see them fight in DREAM as a pert of this OWGP!

What is wrong with Sasahara and co? Why saying that they will announce more fights next week and then not announcing anything at all?

  7. April 18, 2009 at 12:30 pm

He has said next week a lot of times, but most of the times it happens 2 weeks later. Japanese MMA fans also expect 2 weeks when he says one now.

I don’t think Kimbo will fight K-1 soon. And nothing is confirmed about an OWGP, but hopefully something big happens.
