DREAM Title Fight Announced! Fedor Vs. Aoki Exhibition Set

Gegard Mousasi has relinquished his DREAM Middleweight title to move up to the Light Heavyweight division. To crown a new champion it was announced today that Ronaldo Jacare and Jason “Mayhem” Miller will fight for the second time at DREAM.9 in May. Jacare defeated Miller last year in the quarterfinals of the DREAM Middleweight GP.

DREAM EP Sasahara said that the plan is to announce another DREAM.9 fight tomorrow. He says they have a “secret plan” since the event is going to air on prime time on TBS.

Also announced today, Fedor Emelianenko will face DREAM’s Shinya Aoki in an exhibition match at the DEEP M-1 Challenge event in Japan on April 29th.

Update: I’m not sure if Fedor vs. Aoki is a sambo exhibition, it could also be just an exhibition with sambo-like rules. The detailed rules will be revealed like a day before the fight.

Update #2: Fedor vs. Aoki will be 3-5 minutes long. On GBRing.com it says Exhibition Sambo-Rules.

Update #3: The card will consist of 10 fights with 4 of them being GP fights, 1 title fight, and 5 normal fights.

Ehh, as I predicted earlier we won’t know what special they have prepared for DREAM.9 that fast :/ Tomorrow Sasahara will announce Kawajiri vs. JZ most likely and we will be still waiting for the rest of the card.

Fedor/Aoki is pretty cool. I remember people were flipping out about the Ralek Gracie/Mirko Crocop grappling contest that was planned for an earlier DREAM, but I think these kinds of exhibitions are interesting, and usually fun to watch.

Also, when Sasahara says “tomorrow”, he means “in two weeks,” right?

I think that in this case it’s simply tomorrow. “In to weeks” was for “next week”. We will see tomorrow.

Where has Arona been lately? I completely agree that DREAM should pick up Gono.

  8. April 23, 2009 at 6:12 pm

Arona has been on hiatus since Pride, but is suppose to be in the ADCC this year and has stated wants to fight again this year as well.

Gomi from what i read is now a free agent, and will be free to sign anywhere he wants after the Shooto fight he is scheduled for.

and i thought Gono would fly to Sengoku, but him waiting this long to sign some where is making me think he might be signing with Dream instead.

I’m starting to think that “one day” means “two days” or even more…

I guess Fedor vs. Aoki is interesting. Not really too exciting though. I think that Dream or Affliction has set up a strange matchup. I’d much rather see him fight somebody in his own weight class for the title or give Vitor Belfort a chance to fight him. But a lightweight? I mean the guys the best heavyweight in the world why would they match him up with a guy 70 lbs lighter than him? Just doesn’t really make sense to me.
