SENGOKU In Korea! Qualifiers For SENGOKU Gold Cup II?

There is a SENGOKU “event” in Korea tomorrow and I think it might be qualifiers for SENGOKU Gold Cup II. There are two 4-man tournaments in the 60 and 65 kg divisions and one final in the 70 kg division.

The only names I know are young Korean Jae Hyun So (fought Miyata in DEEP) and Japanese Takayuki Kishi, who seems to be getting another shot after a good fight against Shigeki Osawa in SENGOKU Gold Cup I.

The event will be held in Seoul. If anyone who reads Korean can shed some more light on this, please go ahead. Here is the link.

no problem, I’ve also wanted to get into some Korean for a while now. What scares me is that talking and writing doesn’t seem to be the same.

    Full translation:

The first “Sengoku Korean Rookie Trials”, aimed at selecting fighters to participate in Japanese mixed martial arts organization Sengoku, will take place on the 23rd (of July) at Songpagu’s Team Maru Gym.

The trials will be held by Sengoku Japan, and the winners of the Korean trials in each weightclass will meet the winners of the Japanese Trials in the opening bouts of future Sengoku events.

Weightclasses will include -60kg, -65kg, -70kg. The -60kg and -65kg division will be in a 4-man tournament format, and the -70kg division is scheduled to be a single-match final.

Sengoku is a major Japanese mixed martial arts organization that formed in March of 2008, with Korean fighters such as Mu-bae Choi, Chan-sung Jung, Dong-yi Yang earning wins.

Great stuff! Like Marco said, its great to see Sengoku looking to expand beyond Japan. Its something that has also been happening in Shooto recently as well. A lot of times it took a long time for foreign fighters to compete for Shooto world titles and look at what happened recently and what’s coming up in the future.
