Awakened! DREAM.11

Another DREAM event in the books and it was another good one.

The event got a 12.7% rating on TBS which isn’t bad but isn’t good either. It’s good that they are getting higher ratings than last year but we don’t know what the ratings for the last two events would’ve been if there weren’t any big Boxing fights leading in (the Daiki Kameda Boxing fight just before DREAM.11 got a 19% rating). The fight which received the highest rating of the event was Minowaman vs. Choi with 17.2%.

I’m not very positive of the ratings, a 9% drop in 4 minutes and looking at the average rating, a lot of people switched channels as the event went on:

21:16, Boxing fight highest rating, decision announcement: 26.2%
21:20, DREAM.11 highest rating, start of the show: 17.2%

DREAM EP Sasahara said post-event that he wants Sakuraba to fight continuously for the rest of the year and will offer him a fight for DREAM.12 (he hasn’t thought about an opponent yet). A Lightweight title fight between Aoki and Kawajiri isn’t set yet but Sasahara said that they’ll most likely be able to make it official for NYE. The final of the Super Hulk Tournament will as already known take place at Dynamite!! on NYE.

One thing that irritated me during this event (and past) was the referee in the Aoki/Hansen fight. I saw millions of shots to the back of the head throughout the event without any referee doing anything, but when Hansen touched Aoki the referee was all over it. They don’t have to be that obvious.

I agree with your sentiments regarding Yuji’s officiating during Hansen/Aoki. Every slight grazing of Aoki’s head was getting Hansen a warning. They really need to stop with that.

What happened to the layout, N.O.B.?

Aoki was kicked to the groin, it’s normal that the referee stopped the fight.

Another exciting DREAM card. Takaya is FWGP Champion, however.

I wanted to Takaya to take it, but I have to say that Bibiano was more dominating than Takaya. Takaya would benefit from putting more punches together, not just 1’s and 1-2’s. That said, I believe Takaya would win in a rematch.

What kind of ratings do you think Masaoto’s retirement fight will do? If its against Buakw or Souwer I think it could do around a 35-40

Yes, of course, but that isn’t what I’m talking about.

I highly doubt 35-40. Especially on NYE.

What’s with that strange trend in Japanese judging – no hometown decisions?
Gomi x Goliaev, KID x Warren and now Takaya x Fernandez… That’s really weird.

Sorry, so. Really good though, the Dream is getting better. Some useless fights (what the heck was Rubin Williams doing here ?) but that was fun.

Question again, is DREAM’s contract with TBS up and if so, will it be renewed? Doubt they could continue with just PPV and attendance money.

    >The fight which received the highest rating
    >of the event was Minowaman vs. Choi with 17.2%.

Ive come to accept that of Japanese TV but honestly, as someone who has seen the 8 fights online, it in no way (nor the other two ‘for TV’ fights) takes away from the quality of the 5 fights. They have to do what they have to do to get the TV ratings.
If Bob Sapp was the main event, Id have a problem with it but outside of the 5 top caliber fights, who cares if its Choi or some 0-1-1 unknown fighter from the undercard?
Stop bitching about the useless fights as some call them. They arent useless… theyre the reason why they have a TV deal.
And since I doubt the whiners are paying for the DREAM shows, its nothing more than bellyaching for the sake of bitching.
You dont want to see Saku? Then dont click on the Youtube video.
Waaaaaaaaaahh, they made me watch 4mins of video….waaaaaah!

This was an enjoyable and quality card with the right amount of controversy/calls to keep it in mind.
Its the perfect lead-in for 12 which Im really anxious to see.
    (For free. Stop bitching.)

I think it’s up for this year after 12 (which will air on a bad timeslot). We’ll have to wait and see if they renew it next year.
