Santiago Vs. Khalidov?! Title Fight Or Not?

Polish MMA website MMARocks.pl has revealed that extremely exciting fighter Mamed Khalidov will face Jorge Santiago at SENGOKU XI next month. This isn’t the first time there have been talks of Khalidov in SENGOKU so it doesn’t come as a surprise.

The question is whether or not the fight will be for the Middleweight title. At today’s SENGOKU XI press conference WVR PR Kokuho said that it currently looks like Santiago’s fight might be a non-title one. Let’s hope WVR change their minds.

Update: Mamed has signed a three-fight deal with WVR and this fight will be a non-title fight, it seems like Santiago’s side didn’t agree to it being for the title (according to Mamed’s people).

Wow. That’s great. Sengoku XI is looking pretty ridiculous.

Oh, and I assume it will be non-title because the fight will be at some sort of catch-weight, maybe?

It’ll be at 83 kg according to the KSW website, so it will be at Middleweight. The only reason I caould see for a non-title is that it’s a little too close to the fight to train for a 5 rounder.

It makes no sense for him to fight w/o putting his title on the line, if he’s not ready for 5 rounds, he shouldn’t agree to the fight.

I hope Khalidov destroys this clown.

I think it’s cuz Khalidov doesn’t deserve a title shot. I mean, he hasn’t fought a single fight under the Sengoku banner. How is the casual fan going to react if Santiago loses to a guy who they haven’t even heard about? What would that say about the Sengoku MW belt?

This really doesn’t change anything. If Santiago loses then no matter if it is a title fight or not the Sengoku MW belt won’t be looking relevant to the fans. And to tell the truth, it would be better to make it a title fight cause if Khalidov comes on top and the fight is in MW then what’s the reason to not make him the champ? Those kind of fights were one of the biggest flaws of Pride so I don’t see a point in defending Sengoku on this one.

Fuck yeah, here comes the Cannibal! I’d been waiting around hoping Mamed’s management team would finally get their act together and get this man in a bigger promotion and its finally coming along. I’ve been really intterested in Khalidov for a while and really hope he pulls the upset. Really wish it was a title fight though.

I think this fight is not for the tittle because there are other fighters that deserve the tittle opirtunity first, such as misaki and doerksen, besides this is the first time Khalidov fight under the sengoku banner.

I do agree it should be Doerkson getting the fight vs. Santiago but it’s not the fight Sengoku made. Is Misaki still “in trouble”?

    Must be. Poor Misaki.

That might be why it’s non-title. Holding off for Santiago/Misaki II on NYE.

Why didn’t SVS&E pick up his contract? He was with pro elite.
