DREAM Vs. SRC! Tanigawa Speaks

There are some bits of FEG President Tanigawa’s Kamipro interview up on the internet.

He says that they can do various things, but he himself wants a DREAM vs. SRC showdown, somewhere from 5 vs. 5 to 7 vs. 7. Besides Masato/Souwer, Ishii/Yoshida, K-1 Koshien, and superfights he wants all fights to be DREAM vs. SRC.

Tanigawa was also asked about the previous rumor of a dual broadcast (two events at different locations aired on the same program) of the events on TBS. He said that sponsors and stuff like that was too big of a hurdle. The same sponsors couldn’t be on the ring of the Dynamite!! and SRC 12 events, which would be a problem.

When asked if SENGOKU will continue on after NYE, Tanigawa said “of course it will”. They’ll probably discuss it after NYE, but he wants to hold showdown cards between the two organizations at fixed intervals from now on.

Tanigawa said that there won’t be a DREAM+SRC merger organization after this. He rather want both of them to grow more powerful and at times join to hold events as stated above.

Hmm, this brings more questions and suspicions than answers.

Once one show is cancelled, others follow.

Also, after Sengoku has all their top fighters beaten by DREAM fighters, they’ll likely just completely fold anyways.

I doubt one org will make a clean sweep. sengoku’s fighters aren’t less good than dream’s. Maybe you think Sakuraba will beat Misaki.

I don’t understand. They talk about not having duel broadcasts on TBS because of sponsor issues…

Does this mean that DREAM vs. SRC will be held across two events in two different locations (like Dynamite/Yarennoka) or all in Saitama as apart of Dynamite?

5 vs 5 would be good. All fights Sengoku vs Dream would water it down a bit. Also Koshien sucks, put that in the opening bouts and only have the final on the main card.

The dual broadcast means two events at different locations aired on the same program. That didn’t happen, it’ll be one event, dynamite, with almost all fights on the MMA part of the card between dream and sengoku fighters.

yes, koshien really sucks, they should just get rid of it. It’s embarrassing to see Hiroya getting gifts every event.

Sakurai vs. Gono at welterweight according to a Japanese blogger.

    Awesome fight.

This could be the most exciting night in fight sport since 2005.

I wish for Koshien they would bring in international fighters. And this idea that Hiroya is the next Masato is laughable. Unless he plans to grow another 3 inches he’s got no shot at being successful in MAX

Sengoku’s fighters are much less talented than DREAM’s, are you kidding me?

Perhaps you think Mizuto Hirota will beat Shinya Aoki. Or Makoto “I’m already tired” Takimoto will beat Marius Zaromskis. Or Akihiro “I get knocked out by dudes who lose to Mike Pyle” Gono could beat Zaromskis or even Sakurai. Sengoku’s LWs are pretty pitiful. Their FWs fight at a higher weight than DREAM’s, and they have a HW division just as non-existant as DREAM’s.

Kazunori Yokota vs. JZ Calvan? You think Yokota has a chance in that? Come on now.

I raise a question who will be responsible for matchmaking. I doubt FEG risking their top fighters to lose on a primetime show to guys who are good fighters but aren’t recognisable for mainstream audience without having something already set with WVR for the future.

What happened between Mitsuoka and former DREAM champion Hansen 2 years ago? How has it gone for Mitsuoka in big fights in SENGOKU since then?

And please stop overrating Zaromskis, he can beat most ww’s at any given night but can also lose to a lot of them at any given night. I think both Takimoto and Gono could beat Zaromskis, but also get KO’d.

I’d take Gono over Sakurai at this point of their careers.

Yes, I think Yokota/Calvan would be a quite even fight going in.

Pointless to continue, both are at a similar high level. If you can’t see that then continue being wrong.

I think both of them are discussing it and that’s one of the reasons it’s taking so long.

It’s most certainly that way but I can’t envision FEG letting some of the fights to happen without having the ability to at least make rematches. If this was for another show than yes, but that’s Dynamite!! They have good support for this event and aren’t forced to make co-promotions (I would understand if the merger was indeed taking place cause DREAM events are lacking in sponsors and TBS support department). Not that I don’t think that partnering with WVR won’t boost ratings and general interest but FEG would be risking lowering the name of it’s product (the same for WVR but they don’t have a choice) if their champions would lose.
Kinda similiar situation was 2 years ago when FEG gave 2 of their fighters to Yarennoka. In the end the people behind the show ended working for FEG on DREAM.

The thing is, I think after this, if src and dream continue separately, in the inside it will be FEG/RE + DQ(and maybe some of WVR) owning the two orgs together. So even if one org does better than the other, in the background both will make money. There’s no way FEG does this and after NYE say, let’s continue being real rivals as it was before.

And the Yarennoka thing was already decided beforehand.

Very likely though it still will be hard for WVR to secure a TV deal. I would imagine it that some fighters from Sengoku would find themselves on DREAM cards and the other way around.

As for the Yarennoka, before the show we didn’t know what will happen after that and it could be similiar with this years. Tanigawa can talk that nothing is set and they will held talks after Dynamite!! but it could be very well already decided.

And I again quoted my response LoL

Gryphon posted something earlier about Sengoku continuing on for 6 months to a year simply to save face before absolving into DREAM. I think that is what likely will happen (the two organizations coming together sometime 2010/2011) unless Sengoku really turns it around fast.

I think they know how popular MMA once was in Japan and are hoping for that to return. That’s why they’re trying stuff like making dream look like pride v2 when it started and now getting together with dq for battle between promotions and such storylines.

They also see how successful MMA has become worldwide and in the USA, so if they want to come to the states and do a show, they can use MMA to introduce K-1 or vice versa. FEG has always had a dream to make it big in the States and to make more money abroad.
