Final Preparations! K-1 World GP 2009 Final

#11: Press Conference Footage

Press Conference videos Part 1, 2, and 3.

#10: Intense Press Conference

Intense staredown - GBRing.com

All finalists were present at today’s press conference besides Jerome Le Banner who will arrive to Japan on the evening of the 4th.

In what is called the most exciting pre-event press conference in K-1 history, Errol Zimmerman and Remy Bonjasky wouldn’t leave each others face during their staredown (causing staff having to break them up), and Overeem/Hari-Bonjasky had a war of words, partly related to MMA and K-1.

Be sure to check the press conference out when K-1 uploads it on YouTube.

#9: Kharitonov Returns

Kharitonov has arrived in Japan where he talked with the press on the 3rd. He says that he hasn’t really done any special stand-up training for the fight, just been training his normal MMA training. He’s been training at Golden Glory in Holland with fighters such as Schilt, Overeem, and Zimmerman for extended periods of time. He thinks that he’s been able to train with them on equal level when it comes to striking.

He isn’t against fighting in MMA and K-1 at the same time. He says that his aim for next year is to become number 1 in the world but he doesn’t really know which direction he should take for that to happen. He thinks that Ghita is a good fighter and he also confirms the rumor that he was elected to box in the Olympics in the past.

#8: Let’s Get Ready To Rumble!!

Michael Buffer will return to K-1 for the first time since the 2006 WGP finals to be a ring announcer on Saturday.

#7: Final Preparations – Bonjasky

#6: The Golden Trio Is Back

Peter Aerts got back together with trainer Tom Harinck this year and it has now become clear that first ever WGP champion Branko Cikatic will also be in the corner of Aerts in his reserve fight on Saturday. Cikatic was also with Tom and the trio are back together again.

Ernesto Hoost will be in Spong’s corner for his semi main event fight against K-1 Heavyweight champion Kyotaro.

#4: AKB48 Halftime Show

Girl music group AKB48 will have a show at the halftime of the Finals on Saturday. The reason I write this is because they (AKB48) announced this at a Don Quijote store today.

#3: Hari In Japan

Badr Hari has arrived to Japan and held an open training session at Gold’s Gym on the 30th.

#2: Tanigawa Twitter

FEG president and K-1 producer Tanigawa had a fun sequence of tweets yesterday:

I did it, 1000 followers! Thank you!
Yes! 1001! Thanks!
Whaa, it decreased with one. Why?
Dana has 800,000? D…damn.

Also, the boxing fight between Naito and Kameda got a monstrous 43.1% rating on TBS.

wow 43% it seems like boxing is gaining in popularity while other sports are declining in japan. and who wouldnt follow the great poet dana white and his daily world changing tweets.

There are at least 800,000 brain dead pieces of white trash in america. Dana White is good for mma has the same source as Obama is a nazi.

Boxing seems old in America because they promote it that way. Far from a dead sport though. Isn’t it picking up steam in china as well?

What’s cool in america isn’t cool anymore.

I think almost everyone in Japan knows who they are. However I doubt many cares about them. I think they’re the typical 100 member girl group with no real skills, just acting cute.

You lie. This is THE real reason why you announced it:

Thanks for introducing us to japanese pop culture.
I presume they are better consumed with the sound off?

Is Hari using the same supplements as Alistair?
last time I saw him in video when he was stomping that guy he looked much skinnier… like a young Overeem.

Some of the snsd members can actually dance and their voices are good live, so they’re not completely unskilled.

iunno. IMO, every kpop/jpop got where they are cuz of the massive plastic surgery that they endure.

  17. December 1, 2009 at 9:06 pm

yes, of course, but that doesn’t mean that some of them don’t have skill in some areas.

I don’t know anything about jpop anymore though. Too crappy.

Oh yeah, just to give you an idea about Twitter numbers.

Brent Spiner who used to be Data the android on Star Trek: TNG has about 1.3 million followers and the annoying scientologist with the sideburns from That 70s Show also has that number as does Newt Gingrich and Denis Richards (Charlie Sheen’s once sexy ex).

  19. December 1, 2009 at 9:08 pm

    So Dana’s up there.

Can someone please help clarify something for me? Is the tournament going to be completed all in this one night? Or will the semi and finals be on a different night? I was hoping all the fights would be on this event. Can someone help me with this? Thank you.

yup i could see it being confusing cause in the fight order it doesnt specify when the semi and final fight would happen, but it will be all in one night

It’s sad that most ppl here think Alistair Overeem is going to win. Granted, he is a great fighter, but still. He has no respect for the K-1 fighters ability and training. I’m rooting for Teixeira to go all the way. Kyokushin 4 Life. OSU!!!

  30. December 3, 2009 at 7:13 am

I’m also rooting got Ewerton, but after him it’s Alistair, not because I’m a huge fan but because it would be good for MMA if he won.

Why they losing money on Buffer? His announcing is nothing compared to Bomber Mario’s and most of other japanese announcers. It’s really killing the atmosphere, IMO…

    December 3, 2009 at 6:45 pm

It sucks so bad to root against Kharitonov, but I have to support Ghita in this one. I hope Kharitonov puts in a great showing, though, and then focus on MMA next year.

NOB this is completely off topic. But what do you think a Fedor vs Ishii rating could get if Ishii goes onto dominate his next few opponents?

If Ishii goes undefeated for a few fights he’ll probably draw good ratings against anyone.

Against Fedor it’ll be higher than most other fighters. It also depends on other stuff.

Lets say Ishii beat Yoshida, Nakao, and some other solid fighters. Then stepped up and even beat someone like Josh Barnett.

Could a Fedor X Ishii bout on NYE do a 40?

It’s hard to get over a certain limit on NYE because of the music program. I think it would get good ratings but I don’t think it would be over 40 on NYE, I could be wrong though.
