The Aftermath! K-1 World GP 2009 Final

This years tournament is over and it was one of the best finals ever.

FEG President Tanigawa declared today that he wants Alistair or Semmy to take Fedor out.

Candidates from the finals event for Dynamite!! are Alistair, Semmy (will fight under MMA rules if he fights, possibly against an SRC fighter), and Hari (depending on their condition). Alistair wants Hari in an MMA fight.

11 or 12 additional fights will be announced for Dynamite!! and Tanigawa wants 7 of those to be DREAM vs. SENGOKU/SRC fights. He also wants around 3 K-1 vs. DREAM/SENGOKU fights (like last years Mousasi/Musashi, Kawajiri/Kozo, and Alistair/Hari fights).

He is aiming at a +20% rating with the highest ratings moment beating the red and white song contest. However, he is more afraid of the Gaki no Tsukai comedy variety program which will air on NYE.

Tanigawa wants to announce the Dynamite!! card this Wednesday or Thursday.

Update: The event got a 15.3% rating on Fuji TV. The highest moment of the event was around the decision in the third round of Bonjasky vs. Zimmerman with 19.9% rating. This is a decrease 0.8% from last years finals, but still decent/good I think.

Schilt vs Fujita? Or is Fujita too creaky these days?

Or Blagoi. Or maybe it’s time for the Georgian Olympic Army to go to war.

That indeed was an awesome Final. I hope K-1 doesn’t decide to hope a WGP Final every other year, as has been rumored. You can hold it once a year and still maintain all the drama/hype.

    Well done Semmy.

Surely he will get some credit after that performance, unlucky for Badr but he went too crazy in the Final……I wasn’t too hyped for Dynamite but I am STOKED now.

    Roll on NYE.

Michael Schiavello said on his twitter a few days ago he was doing a Dynamite pre show before the k1 final, and said wait until you see who is fighting on Dynamite!!

As far as the finals go I thought is was kind of weak. The only competitive fight on the card was Zimmerman/Bonjasky.

Semmy doesn’t have much to offer to fedor, it would most likely look the same way their first fight looked (unless fedor decides to stand with him) Overeem is an interesting fight, would love to see that one.

    I praise Schilt as well.

I didn’t listen to most of the audio from the hdnet broadcast and I am glad I didn’t. These guys are not treating kickboxing like a sport. They were total cheerleaders in the Hari, Overeem fight. The only thing that comes that close to being “raw is war” is the ufwwe event.

The worst part is when you here announcers refer to k1 as a sport. Is this a joke or what?

    I wasn’t crying.

That whole escapade during the overeem, hari fight was extremely unprofessional. If the announcers aren’t taking their jobs seriously then why should the fans. Alas, the fans don’t.

It was also “selling the storyline”.
