May 26th! Daisuke Naito X DREAM.9

The same day that DREAM.9 takes place, WBC Flyweight Champion Daisuke Naito will defend his title in China. He will face Chinese Xiong Zhao Zhong and it will be the first time a Chinese challenges for a world title. Naito fights get big ratings on TV (higher than both MMA and K-1) and it has been decided that that night TBS will air both the Boxing fight and DREAM.9 for three hours starting from 7:55 PM in what is called a Martial Arts Festival. This will definitely help the ratings of DREAM.9.

Hi–love your website. Quick question: do you know why DREAM is holding their event on a Tuesday? I checked a couple of places online thinking that it might be a holiday in Japan, but best as I can figure its not. It seems that in the past most major MMA events in Japan are held either on a weekend or holiday. Was it planned this way to coordinate with the Naito fight?

I don’t really know why events are held on weekdays. It works for MAX. Maybe they have done research or something.

Don’t know if it was planned but it definitely wouldn’t surprise me.

Looks like they offered Overeem a fight for DREAM.9 but he of course refused cause he already agreed to fight for Strikeforce in June http://www.mixfight.nl/forum/showthread.php?t=92170
