Bae, Kikuno, Hironaka, Parky - Sportsnavi.com

The first two fights for DREAM.12 have been announced and they are high-level ones. In two Lightweight fights, DEEP Lightweight champion Katsunori Kikuno will take on Eddie Alvarez and Won Sik “Parky” Park will battle newly crowned Cage Force Lightweight champion Kuniyoshi Hironaka in a fight which I think might be a little too early for the young Korean.

Also announced as a participant of the card, Korean Myeon Ho Bae, who is 7-1 in his last 8, will make his DREAM debut.

Update: The fights will be fought in a hexagon cage and they will be 3 5 minute rounds(NO!!!).

Solid fights! I’m really torn over Alvarez/Kikuno though. Alvarez cemented himself as one of my favorite fighters to watch and Kikuno’s been on my radar for a while. All I can hope for is that they both put on an amazing performance. Anyone think Kikuno can pull the upset?

As far as Parky/Hironaka I hope with evreything Parky wins. He’s done nothing but put on hood fights (Plus I’m still a little hurt over Hironaka aking out Koyama). I’ve gotten to see Myeon Ho BAe through the M-1 challenge and he seems like a scrappy guy. Wonder who they will match him up with?

Kikuno will prove the strength of true karate.

Apparently Bellator are very confident that Alvarez will beat Kikuno.

Also, Bellator said they wanted a DREAM lightweight to participate in their 2010 tournament in exchange for Eddie’s participation in the event. I wonder who they’re sending over?

Interesting a special caged DREAM event once a year. I like the first two lightweight match ups. Myeon Ho Bae has a good record and fought well in the M-1 challenge I too wonder what welterweight he will do battle with. I hope Takafumi Otsuka fights in this event.

I’m more put off by the 3 X 5 than the cage, although I prefer the ring.

Since they’re exchanging things, maybe SVSE should use a ring and have a 10 minute first in a future event.

for some reason i think that Nick Diaz will be either fighting Marius for the belt, or fighting that big Korean guy

I heard Kiyoshi Tamura gets the first title shot against Marius

  10. September 30, 2009 at 1:18 am

nice, id like to see Tamura get a title shot, frankly as long as the belts on the line im happy. i cant stand non title fights

which again leaves me thinking Diaz will fight Bae, which would be a waist. id rather see him fight Mach (a motivated Mach)

    > i cant stand non title fights

    WTF?!
The quality of the fight has nothing to do with a decorative trinket or trophy.

A good fight is a good fight.

Then again, I have friends who can only watch certain kinds, actaully one kind only, of MMA because they care more about the logo then fights.

Im in the same boat, Im a ring guy but the 3×5 bothers me more than the cage.

But in both cases, the question is why?

One show per year with a cage isnt a problem but what is the goal of this? Will they attract more viewers? They want to harmonize thign so they coproduce some shows with Strikeforce?
(Imagine a DREAM/STrikeforce copromotion on Showtime with Fedor fighting in Japan in a cage next year?)

If its just for variety and to shake things up in October where they have 2 shows 20 days apart, sure, why not… i hate many things about the cage style of fighting but especially the bad viewing when at a show compared to a ring. But if they want to change every year for the HAlloween show like some video game option, whatever….

But 3×5 changes so much of the strategy and conditioning required that I have to ask again?
    Why?

I think what he means to say is, he hates to see the Champion fight when the title isn’t on the line.

I feel your pain, a lot of my friends don’t acknowledge any MMA outside of the UFC.

i dont know anything about MMA 😦

If a motivated Mach didn’t show up for DREAM.10, then a motivated Mach does not exist.

  16. September 30, 2009 at 9:02 am

he was motivated vs Aoki. so its gonna be interesting to see if he does fight Nick and what kinda shape he shows up in

  17. September 30, 2009 at 6:25 pm

thats lame, so they get a Dream LW for a possible 3 fights in exchange for Eddie fighting once? lop sided

get new friends or tell them the mma rankings are largely based on the fertittas special relationship with the zombie media, and on ignorance. No playoff, no right to claim you’re top 10.
