Shirai At Welterweight! The Man Who Should Have Advanced

Former Middleweight Yuya Shirai made the Welterweight limit yesterday for his fight with Korean Yoon Young Kim today at clubDEEP. As previously reported, the winner of this fight will get a spot in the DREAM Welterweight GP.

Shirai participated in the DEEP Middleweight GP last year. He lost in the second round to the very tough Riki Fukuda via split decision in a fight which I thought he should have won. In his last fight he beat the winner of that Middleweight GP, Yuichi Nakanishi. I look forward to seeing how he does at Welterweight and I think he is a strong name in the GP if he wins today.

    Riki Fukuda fought Ryuta Sakurai in the 1st round of the DEEP GP, DEEP 34. The Fukuda fight was 2nd round.
